This Nag Hammadi work is not the same as another work known to the church fathers that exists today in Ethiopic. The Apocalypse consists of visions of Peter with interpretations from the Savior. There is debate whether two or three visions exist because the second vision, a long discourse, is sometimes viewed as an explanation of the first. The topics are Jesus’ death and a debate about what his death involved. This work defends a docetic view of Christ’s death and is dualistic (Desjardins’s introduction in Robinson 2000, 4:201–14). Desjardins dates it anywhere between AD 150 and 250, although most place it in the third century.
